Ballades – I could spend all day with these recordings…

I've been playing a little Chopin lately, or at least trying to, and so I decided to buy this Deutsche Grammophon box set of Chopin's complete works as performed by a number of well-known masters. For only £29.99 it's a wonderful collection, and more sophisticated ears than mine have given it positive reviews. All that I will say is that I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Aside from the two fairly simple Waltzes that I'm trying to learn, I've mostly been listening to the four Ballades, which are some of the most challenging pieces ever conceived. Here, expertly delivered by Krystian Zimerman, both the music and the performance are totally captivating, and so I was very excited to find good quality video on YouTube of Zimerman performing all four. I include them below, and hope that you enjoy them as much as I am.

Chopin Ballade No. 1

Chopin Ballade No. 2

Chopin Ballade No. 3

Chopin Ballade No. 4 pt.1

Chopin Ballade  No. 4 pt.2
